Build meaningful expertise at the intersection of Women’s Heart Health, advanced cardiovascular care, and clinical research. This is an opportunity to help shape care in a rapidly evolving cardiology subspecialty while practicing within a deeply collaborative academic health system.

Join UVA Health’s Ambulatory Cardiology team as an Advanced Practice Provider supporting Women’s Heart Health and General Cardiology at Fontaine. Approximately 75% of the position is dedicated to Women’s Heart Health, with the remaining practice focused on a broad range of general cardiology conditions. You will have the support, mentorship, and clinical exposure to grow into a highly skilled cardiovascular clinician.

The Role

You will care for patients across the adult lifespan, primarily age 16 and older, within a team-based model that brings together APPs, physicians, nurses, and clinic leadership. Rather than maintaining an independent patient panel, you will share responsibility for patients with an interdisciplinary team, creating continuity, collaboration, and ready access to specialty expertise.

Your practice will include complex and intellectually engaging cardiovascular conditions, with opportunities to develop specialized knowledge in coronary microvascular disease, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, cardiovascular disease in pregnancy, and other conditions affecting women’s cardiovascular health.

A four 10-hour shift schedule is available, providing an additional weekday away from clinic each week. New team members receive a structured three-month orientation followed by a gradual clinical ramp-up, supporting a thoughtful transition toward independent visit management and a full clinical template.

Key responsibilities and opportunities include:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with Women’s Heart Health and General Cardiology needs.
  • Care for patients with arrhythmias, palpitations, heart failure, and other cardiovascular conditions.
  • Develop evidence-based treatment plans in partnership with physicians, APP colleagues, nurses, and patients.
  • Educate patients and support shared decision-making throughout their cardiovascular care.
  • Participate in a growing Women’s Heart Health program with expanding patient populations and subspecialty services.
  • Gain exposure to advanced cardiac imaging and specialized coronary function testing (CFT).
  • Contribute to clinical research through patient recruitment and longitudinal follow-up associated with active clinical trials.
  • Build relationships across a large Ambulatory Cardiology APP community with access to consultation, mentorship, and subspecialty expertise.

Prior cardiology experience is highly preferred, including cardiovascular experience gained through an RN or APP role. Physician Assistants with cardiology rotations, EMT experience, or meaningful cardiovascular exposure may also be considered. Motivated new graduates with a clear passion for cardiology, initiative, and a commitment to self-directed learning are encouraged to apply.
