The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse – Scrub Scout to join our Perioperative team at St John of God Bendigo Hospital on a permanent full-time or part-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a minimum of two years’ experience in a Scrub Scout role to join a supportive and collaborative team, delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the surgical journey.
Working within our operating theatres, you will play an integral role in supporting surgical procedures, maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and ensuring the efficient preparation and delivery of perioperative care. You will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes for patients.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality and patient-centred care throughout the perioperative journey.
- Undertake Scrub Scout duties across a range of surgical procedures, ensuring appropriate preparation and support throughout each case.
- Prepare operating theatres, surgical instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with procedural and clinical requirements.
- Maintain aseptic technique and strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide effective assistance throughout procedures.
- Complete surgical counts and ensure compliance with relevant policies, protocols and patient safety requirements.
- Monitor patient safety throughout the perioperative period, identifying and escalating any clinical concerns appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, perioperative colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to support efficient theatre operations.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure effective communication and handover.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, clinical governance and a positive team culture.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
- A minimum of two years’ recent Scrub Scout experience within a perioperative or operating theatre environment.
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, aseptic technique and infection prevention and control.
- Well-developed clinical assessment, communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to anticipate surgical team requirements, prioritise effectively and respond confidently in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong commitment to patient safety, teamwork and delivering exceptional patient care.
- A flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to work collaboratively across a range of surgical specialties.

- Salary: $85,480 - $107,881 (pro rata for part time), plus12% superannuation
