The position exists to assist the RN in provision of care to patients. The RN Applicant / Graduate Nurse observes and documents patient conditions/behaviors in order to provide input to the RN for use in patient assessment. Performs treatments and procedures under the direction of a RN and according to policy and procedure. Understands and follows the patient care plan. Input concerning changes to the patient care plan is communicated to the RN based upon observations. Provides or assists with activities of daily living. Participates in quality assurance activities and implements quality assurance measures to ensure that hospital, DNV, and other quality standards or regulations are met. Other tasks and functions may be assigned as needed to fulfill the mission of the organization. The following list of nursing tasks will NOT to be delegated to the RN Applicant or Graduate Nurse in accordance with Virginia state code (18VAC90-20-460 "Nursing Tasks That Shall Not Be Delegated"). A. Nursing tasks that shall not be delegated are those which are inappropriate for a specific, unlicensed person to perform on a specific patient after an assessment is conducted as provided in 18VAC90-20-440. B. Nursing tasks that shall not be delegated to any unlicensed person are: 1. Activities involving nursing assessment, problem identification, and outcome evaluation which require independent nursing judgment; 2. Counseling or teaching except for activities related to promoting independence in personal care and daily living; 3. Coordination and management of care involving collaboration, consultation and referral; 4. Emergency and nonemergency triage; 5. Administration of medications except as specifically permitted by the Virginia Drug Control Act (§ 54.1-3400 et seq. of the Code of Virginia); and 6.
