Jessie McPherson Private Hospital has cared for Victorians for more than 95 years. As a standalone, not-for-profit private hospital owned by Monash Health, we provide specialist private hospital services for Melbourne's south-east and the wider Victorian community.

Located at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Jessie McPherson Private Hospital operates as a distinct private hospital within the Monash Health network, with the benefit of close connection to the capability, infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise of a major tertiary health service.

We also operate Monash Heart Private at the Victorian Heart Hospital, providing private cardiac care within Australia's first dedicated cardiac hospital.

Our people work in a connected, supportive hospital environment where collaboration, continuous learning and high-quality patient care go hand in hand. Whether you're joining us for the first time or continuing your career within the Monash Health network, you'll be part of a team committed to making a meaningful difference for patients, families and one another.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Midwifery Unit Manager (AMUM) to join the maternity leadership team at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital. Reporting to the Maternity Services Unit Manager, the AMUM plays a pivotal leadership role in supporting the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the maternity service while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, woman-centred care.

This position will suit an experienced midwife who demonstrates strong leadership capability, excellent clinical judgement, and a commitment to service excellence. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the AMUM supports workforce development, quality improvement, patient flow, and service delivery while fostering a culture that prioritises the wellbeing of women, babies and families.

Position Details:

  • Permanent Part Time opportunity (0.8 EFT)

  • Fixed Term Part Time opportunities (0.6 EFT) for 6 months. Ideal for midwives seeking to expand their leadership capabilities and experience the AMUM role in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Maternity Services Unit Manager in the clinical and operational management of the maternity unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based and woman-centred care.
  • Coordinate unit activities including workload allocation, patient flow, staffing support, roster management, discharge planning, incident response and the management of actual and potential barriers to service delivery.
  • Provide visible clinical leadership, mentoring and support to the maternity workforce, promoting professional development, performance enhancement, succession planning and a positive workplace culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with women, families, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to support safe, coordinated care and positive patient experiences across the maternity continuum.
  • Lead and contribute to quality, safety and service improvement initiatives, supporting compliance with professional standards, clinical governance requirements, National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and organisational objectives. Manage designated clinical and operational portfolios, projects and strategic initiatives that support continuous improvement and service development.

About You

You are an experienced and engaging midwife leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional maternity care and supporting high-performing teams. You are a strong communicator who can build effective relationships, lead positive change and balance clinical, operational and people management responsibilities in a dynamic healthcare environment.

You will bring:

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife, or Registered Nurse/Midwife, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
  • A minimum of three years' midwifery experience, with demonstrated leadership experience in a maternity setting.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including workforce coordination, coaching, change management, performance development and safety leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, resolve conflict and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A demonstrated commitment to woman-centred care, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, clinical governance and professional accountability.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, operational demands and service improvement initiatives.
  • Level 3 FSEP

In Return

In this role, you will have access to:

  • A supportive and collaborative maternity leadership team committed to clinical excellence, innovation and employee wellbeing.
  • Opportunities to lead service improvement initiatives and contribute to the future direction of maternity services.
  • Ongoing professional development, leadership training, mentoring and career advancement opportunities.
  • Salary packaging and employee benefits, subject to eligibility.
  • The opportunity to work within a high-acuity private maternity service co-located with Monash Health, providing access to world-class research, education and specialist services.
