This role serves as the operational leader for Emergency Department throughput activities, including patient discharges, admissions, interfacility transfers, and movement of admitted patients from the Emergency Department to inpatient units. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE** Throughput Coordination · Coordinates patient progression and movement throughout the Emergency Department and hospital system. · Facilitates timely ED discharges, admissions, transfers, and inpatient placement. · Coordinates movement of Admit Hold patients to assigned inpatient beds. · Monitors throughput metrics and prioritizes interventions to improve flow. Barrier Identification and Resolution · Identifies barriers affecting patient progression and operational efficiency. · Escalates unresolved delays and collaborates with stakeholders to resolve issues. · Tracks delays related to diagnostics, transport, bed placement, consultations, and discharge processes. Interdisciplinary Collaboration · Collaborates with inpatient nursing units, physicians, surgical services, case management, social work, transport agencies, and receiving facilities. · Participates in throughput huddles and multidisciplinary rounds. Quality and Performance Improvement · Monitors throughput indicators including boarding time, LOS, transfer delays, and capacity utilization. · Provides recommendations for process improvement and workflow efficiencies. **Opportunity to play a key leadership role in optimizing patient flow, reducing delays, and improving the patient experience in a high-volume Emergency Department.
