Nurse jobs in Qatar: DHP licence, HMC and Prometric (2026)

Nurse jobs in Qatar for foreigners: the DHP licence (formerly QCHP), the Qatar Prometric exam for nurses, HMC benefits and how employers sponsor you.

General information, not legal, tax or immigration advice. Rules change; check the official sources linked here or ask a qualified adviser.

Nurse jobs in Qatar are open to foreign nurses. To work, you need a licence from the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health. DHP replaced the old Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) in 2019, which is why many people still search for “QCHP”. A Registered General Nurse needs a nursing degree or diploma, 2 years of clinical experience after registration, a primary source verification report and a pass in the DHP qualifying exam at Prometric, unless you passed the NCLEX in the last five years. The application runs through your future employer, so in practice you need a job offer before you can be licensed.

This guide explains the licence, the Qatar Prometric exam for nurses, what Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) offers, and how to find work. We checked every source on 16 October 2026. Rules change, so check DHP’s own pages before you pay. This is general information, not legal advice.

QCHP, DHP and MOPH: who is who

  • MOPH is Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.
  • DHP (Department of Healthcare Professions) is the MOPH department that registers and licenses all health practitioners in government and private facilities.
  • QCHP was the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners, set up by Emiri decree No. 7 in March 2013. Emiri decree No. 14 of February 2019 abolished it and replaced it with DHP (DHP, about us).

So “QCHP licence”, “QCHP login” and “QCHP exam” now all mean the DHP equivalents. The DHP registration and licensing system is at dhpportal.moph.gov.qa.

Who can be licensed: DHP nurse requirements

DHP’s guidelines set these requirements for the main nursing titles:

Title Education Experience Exam
Registered General Nurse Bachelor’s in nursing (4 years), or diploma (3 years after 12 years of school), or associate degree if licensed as an RN 2 years after registration as an RN (3 years for an associate degree) Prometric
Registered Midwife Bachelor’s in midwifery, or nursing bachelor’s plus a recognised post-graduate midwifery programme 3 years as a midwife after registration Prometric
Assistant Nurse or Assistant Midwife Nursing diploma of 18 months to 2 years after 12 years of school, or other listed programmes 2 years after registration Not required
Clinical Nurse Specialist RN requirements plus a relevant master’s or 1-year post-graduate degree 3 years as an RN plus 1 year in the specialty Not required
Nurse Trainee Bachelor’s or diploma in nursing None Not required

Other rules in the same document:

  • Online or distance-learning nursing programmes are not accepted.
  • If you have less experience than required, DHP evaluates you case by case. Nurses with a break from practice or too little experience may be allowed a supervised training period.
  • DHP’s evaluation result does not guarantee a particular title.
  • Documents in other languages need an official Arabic or English translation.

The verification step

DHP needs a primary source verification (PSV) report with your evaluation. Its PSV page names Dataflow and Quadrabay as approved providers, and also lists Approved Verification Services (AVS) (DHP PSV page). You apply on the provider’s own portal and attach the report to your DHP application.

DHP’s guidelines say verification replaces embassy attestation, so your certificates do not need to be attested. You must still arrange your certificate of good standing: it must reach DHP directly from your regulator, by post or by email to DHPGoodSt@moph.gov.qa, and DHP checks it at the licensing stage.

Qatar Prometric exam for nurses

DHP’s qualifying exam is computer-based and delivered by Prometric (DHP qualifying examinations).

Item What DHP says
Format 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours
Pass mark for Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife 50%
Attempts 5 in total, whatever the gap between them
Fee USD 244 from 1 January 2026
Late changes USD 25 to cancel or reschedule 30 to 60 or more days ahead, USD 40 at 5 to 29 days, the full fee if under 5 days or a no-show
Exemption NCLEX passed within the previous five years

The fee and change charges come from DHP circular DHP/2024/10 (DHP fee circular). DHP publishes a content blueprint for Registered General Nurses and Midwives on the exam page. Use it to plan your revision, and be wary of “sample question PDFs” that claim to be real exam items.

You book through Prometric’s DHP page after DHP confirms your eligibility. For how the Qatar exam compares with Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, see our Prometric exam guide. If you are deciding between the NCLEX and the Prometric, our NCLEX-RN guide explains that exam.

Why the employer matters

DHP’s process map sends every evaluation to the Employer Representative’s page after you submit it. The employer reviews and approves your documents before DHP does anything. Your preliminary evaluation is then printed from the employer’s page, and it is valid for only 6 months (DHP nurse guidelines).

For licensing, your Qatar ID must be sponsored by your employer (or, for women on family sponsorship, come with the employer’s letter of intent). You also need a Qatar police clearance, a medical report from an approved facility with HIV, hepatitis B and C tests and a chest X-ray, and a valid CPR course. So you cannot finish a Qatar licence on your own. Start with PSV and exam preparation, then apply for jobs.

Hamad Medical Corporation jobs

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) runs public hospitals in Qatar. Its website lists hospitals including Hamad General Hospital, the Heart Hospital and the Women’s Wellness and Research Center, and says more than 90 nationalities work at HMC.

How to apply. HMC takes applications online. Its apply page lets you browse jobs or submit your CV without applying for a specific job, through its recruitment portal at ebusiness.hamad.qa (HMC apply online). If someone else contacts you about an HMC job, check that the vacancy also appears on HMC’s own portal before you send documents.

HMC benefits. HMC’s own overview lists (HMC benefits):

  • a tax-free salary
  • housing, furniture and transport allowances
  • 35 to 50 paid vacation days a year plus Eid holidays
  • a round-trip ticket each year to the country you were recruited from
  • subsidised healthcare for you and your family, and educational support for children
  • an end-of-service award, relocation support and country orientation

Nurse salary in Qatar

HMC does not publish salary scales on its website, and DHP does not set pay. We found no official public table of nurse salaries in Qatar to quote. Pay depends on your title, grade, specialty and employer. When you compare offers, add up basic pay and every allowance, and ask whether housing is provided or paid as cash.

Finding nurse jobs in Qatar

On Nurse Jobs World on 16 October 2026 we listed 32 open nursing jobs in Qatar, all in Doha, all with Aster DM Healthcare: Staff Nurse, Senior Staff Nurse and Assistant Nurse roles at Aster medical centres, Wellcare Poly Clinic and Dr. Moopens Aster Hospital (Qatar nursing jobs). We list jobs straight from employers’ career sites. The Doha jobs page shows the same roles by city.

Tips for the search:

  • Government or private. HMC is the public hospital employer. Private hospitals and clinic groups, such as the Aster facilities above, also recruit.
  • Experience counts. Two years after registration is the DHP minimum for a Registered General Nurse. Recent acute experience in ICU, emergency, theatre or maternity is most in demand.
  • Ask about the licence. Ask who pays for PSV and the exam, and whether you start on a temporary licence.
  • Look wider. Many roles across the Gulf are open to applicants abroad, and our visa sponsorship jobs page lists employers that sponsor visas.

Recruitment fees

The International Labour Organization says Qatar “has very good legislation in place which clearly states that workers should not pay any fees for their recruitment” (ILO). If an agency asks you to pay a placement or visa fee for a Qatar job, ask why, get it in writing, and read our guide to ethical nurse recruitment and scams.

Keeping your licence

Every DHP licence holder must meet continuing professional development (CPD) rules. DHP’s portal will not let you apply for renewal until your CPD record is complete. For renewal you upload your passport, Qatar ID, a photo, a CPR certificate and an employment letter. If you move to another employer, you apply to DHP to change your place of work and get a new licence with the new facility’s name.

Frequently asked questions

What is the full form of QCHP?

QCHP stands for Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners. It was abolished in February 2019 by Emiri decree No. 14 and replaced by the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health. Searches for “QCHP licence” or “QCHP login” now lead to DHP.

Can foreigners get nurse jobs in Qatar?

Yes. Qatar’s hospitals and clinics recruit foreign nurses all the time. You need a recognised nursing qualification, 2 years of experience after registration as a Registered General Nurse, a verification report and the DHP exam unless exempt, and an employer who sponsors your Qatar ID.

How much is the Qatar Prometric exam for nurses?

DHP circular DHP/2024/10 sets the fee at USD 244 from 1 January 2026. Rescheduling costs USD 25 or USD 40 depending on how close the exam is, and the full fee is lost if you change it less than 5 days before or do not attend.

What is the pass mark of the Qatar Prometric exam for nurses?

DHP lists a cut score of 50% for Registered General Nurses and Registered Midwives. The exam has 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, and you have 5 attempts in total.

Do I need the Prometric exam if I passed the NCLEX?

No, if you passed it in the previous five years. DHP’s nurse guidelines exempt NCLEX holders from the qualifying exam within that window.

How do I apply for Hamad Medical Corporation jobs?

Use the apply online page on hamad.qa, which leads to HMC’s recruitment portal. You can apply for a listed job or submit your CV. HMC lists benefits such as housing and transport allowances, 35 to 50 vacation days and an annual ticket home.
